You actually don't need social media, you just think you do.

Remember, social media is used for 1 of 2 things. Either you are selling something to someone else or they are selling something to you. If you are in category number two, you should not be on social media.

These platforms are really good at hooking you in because they were scientifically designed to do so. Just like the user of hard drugs such as cocaine, heroin and speed, you are fed a reward every time you hit that digital crack pipe.

If you did an MRI brain scan of you and a crack fiend that lives under a bridge as he inhaled his first hit, you would probably see the same areas of your brain light up the second you see a notification or hit that like button.

It's sounds funny, but it's true.

What makes it funny is that just like a real drug addict, you convince yourself everyday that you need that drug to survive and because of that you keep taking it. Over and over and over again until your fantasy starts to have real consequences.

A real consequences like you driving through that intersection and hitting a kid on his bike as he crosses the street, because you failed to stop at the red light while you were trolling your feed.

That's the real consequence.

I don't expect you as an addict or the addict in general to acknowledge their problem, but whoever is reading this can and start to educate themselves on the real world dangers caused by these digital systems.

As you know, the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem.
